The Beatles were an English rock band, formed in Liverpool in 1960. With members John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, they became widely regarded as the foremost and most influential music band in history. Rooted in skiffle, beat, and 1950s rock ‘n’ roll, the Beatles later experimented with several genres ranging from pop ballads to psychedelic rock and often incorporated elements of classical music. The group disbanded in September 1959. Harrison goes to another band, McCartney and Lennon continue to play together. Reuniting in 1960, the trio takes Lennon’s childhood friend Stuart Sutcliffe with them. While the band wanted to continue playing under the name The Sickless, the band took the name The Beatles, to refer to the word “beat“, which means rhythm, with Paul McCartney’s suggestion. The band then takes Pete Best on drums and plays in Germany for a while.

First, Harrison is deported for lying about his age. Later, Best and McCartney are deported due to a fire. The band gets an offer from singer Tony Sheridan and starts playing with him. They hit the charts in Germany as Tony Sheridan and the Beat Brothers and resume playing in Germany. After the last German concert in Hamburg, Sutcliffe decides to stay in Germany and the quartet returns to England. Thus, Paul McCartney switched to bass guitar.

First recordings and drummer problem

In 1960, the Beatles were a struggling band that had been playing in Hamburg, Germany for two years. They had returned to Liverpool and were performing at local venues like the Cavern Club. In 1961, they made their first recordings and recorded their first single, “Love Me Do.”

They also hired drummer Pete Best as their permanent drummer and began to gain popularity in Liverpool. Their popularity grew and by 1963, they were playing concerts outside of England, including shows in Paris and Sweden.

Pete Best’s drumming style was not suited to the group’s style of music. He was replaced by Ringo Starr, who had played with Rory Storm & The Hurricanes. The Beatles made their first album, “Please Please Me,” which was released in 1963 and became an immediate hit in England.

Beatlemania was the fanaticism surrounding the English rock band the Beatles in the 1960s. The group’s popularity grew in the United Kingdom throughout 1963, propelled by the singles “Please Please Me“, “From Me to You” and “She Loves You“. By October, the press adopted the term “Beatlemania” to describe the scenes of adulation that attended the band’s concert performances. From the start of 1964, their world tours were characterized by the same levels of hysteria and high-pitched screaming by female fans, both at concerts and during the group’s travels.

America days

In late 1963, the Beatles’ previous singles and new songs, She Loves You, were released in the United States. However, with Epstein’s request, the song I Want to Hold Your Hand was focused on and its music video started to be shown all over America. Radios started playing this song and it managed to sell one million copies in ten days. The Beatles also began appearing on television shows in America.

When the band first came to America, nearly 3000 listeners were waiting at the airport. George Harrison was unable to appear on the first live program in America because of his illness. The Beatles’ psychedelic period was a time when they experimented with LSD and other psychedelic drugs. This period lasted from 1966 to 1970.

In the late 1960s, The Beatles began experimenting with psychedelic drugs such as marijuana and LSD. They were among the first major pop stars to do so, and their experimentation was widely reported by the media at the time.

The Beatles album

The Beatles (also known as the White Album) is the ninth studio album by the English rock band the Beatles, released on 22 November 1968. A double album, its plain white sleeve has no graphics or text other than the band’s name embossed.

The Beatles received favorable reviews from most music critics; detractors found its satirical songs unimportant and apolitical amid the turbulent political and social climate of 1968. It topped record charts in Britain and the United States.

No singles were issued in either territory, but “Hey Jude” and “Revolution” originated from the same recording sessions and were issued on a single in August 1968. The album has been certified 24× platinum by the RIAA. A remixed and expanded edition of the album was released in 2018 to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Separation

There was a new manager problem between the band members and Paul McCartney. McCartney wanted his then-husband’s father, Lee Eastman, while the other band members wanted Allen Klein. Klein was eventually chosen as manager, but in 1971 it was discovered that he had stolen money from the band. The band gave their last concert on a roof without permission in 1969. The images that they were downloaded by the police were also included in the Let It Be movies.

The band recorded the album Abbey Road in 1969, where they had problems in the studio again. At the same time, the recording of the album Let It Be was continuing. On September 20, 1969, Lennon announced that he was leaving the band members, but no statement was made to the press. On January 3, 1970, the George Harrison composition I Me Mine was the last Beatles song recorded, but John Lennon was not on those recordings. In the same year, the first name of the album, which was decided to be Get Back, but the mix was not liked, was finally released as Let It Be. However, this could not prevent the group from disintegrating.

Rooftop Concert

It is the concert that the band members, who went to the roof of the Apple building to give their last concert on January 30, 1969, suddenly started with the song Get Back and ended with the song Get Back without any permission and without anyone knowing. In 1974, Lennon and McCartney recorded for themselves in the studio, but they never met again, and those recordings were never officially released. In 2001, George Harrison died of lung cancer. In 2006, George Martin and his son Giles Martin remastered the original Beatles recordings for Cirque de Soleil’s show “Love”. In 2007, McCartney, Starr, Lennon’s wife Yoko Ono, and Harrison’s wife Olivia Harrison met on television.
